The Rules: Journalism

If you repeat a report or rebroadcast footage from TMZ, you lose all credibility as a news program.

  1. Ditto any article covering what the British tabloids are saying on an issue.

I was just asking Dave today how knowing what tv celebrities earn is 'A Current Affair'. I don't usually see any of that show, but on the odd occasion the tv gets left on that channel and it's on, urgh, it does my head in. And not just that one, all of them purporting to be 'news'.

have you read Kochie's piece on the Punch today defending his show and breakfast 'television' in general? What a friggin joke!

  3. David Koch frustrates the hell out of me because he's really very smart and he turns that off when he's on his own show.

Haven't read that piece and get the impression I would get stabby if I did, but he's written some pretty good stuff on his own site. Pity none of it seeps into his day job.

  4. I totally agree with you on Koch, I don't mind his writing and most of the time I find myself nodding away. But when he is on that show, he's terrible and becomes this parody of himself.

They all do. I was complaining about Peter Overton to my Dad the other day, how back in the day when he first started out, he was serious, but not too serious and he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. But ever since he took over Nine News he's become this fake journo who tries too hard, everything just seems forced. And that is exactly what Koch is on Sunrise

  5. P.S. You would def get stabby if you read today's punch piece. He's defending brekky television and their sensationalistic crap!

  6. Haven't followed Overton's work, but I know what you mean. It's one thing to be a bimbo from the outset (I'm looking at you, Brady Halls) but choosing to become one is insulting.

Oh, and totally agree Lad Litter!

  7. You can throw in any exploration of what's being said on commercial talk radio for good measure too.

  8. Can I just say, Brady Halls is a bit of an asshole. When I was in Year 12 my school's vocal ensemble was chosen to perform at the launch of an Olympics newspaper for school kids that would be published in the lead-up to the Games. Halls was there doing a live cross for Midday with Kerri-Anne and he was so bloody rude in the lead-up to it and afterwards, even to the point of swearing and he didn't even try to hide his displeasure of having to be there. I've disliked him ever since. He is not at all like his on-screen persona behind the scenes.

Neither is KRudd, the few times he came into my shop when I worked in the city, he was very gruff, couldn't even manage a smile when I asked him how his day had been going. Couldn't even say thank you at the end of the transaction....and I was working in the Bible Society Bookshop at the time too. This was a good 4 or 5 years before he was PM.
