Maybe I’m just stupid

Okay, here’s what I don’t get:

The “Tea Party,” (which sounds like some kind of joke from The Goodies) claims to be standing against overspending, overtaxing and giving benefits to those who don’t contribute, right?

So how does that square with charging members $550 per head so they can pay $100,000 for a woman who quit her job to come and speak to them, and all she gives them is repetition of slogans that were on t-shirts as long ago as last March?

How can these poor, downtrodden, hard-working, salt-of-the-earth types, who are so crippled by taxes, possibly afford such a junket?  Who, in good conscience, could take their money?

Could someone please explain why anyone should take these nuts seriously?
What am I missing here?

  1. Is that as in 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party'?

Coming from the UK I fail to comprehend how anyone can be opposed to universal health care. Our National Health Service isn't great but (mostly) people don't die here from curable conditions just because they can't afford to pay for help. Am I being too simplistic?

And is that Sarah Palin? Why does no-one pay me $100,000 for being useless? I could do that!

  2. Or Mad-as-a-hatters' tea party.

Yes, I'm affraid you are too simplistic to understand that you are suffering under the oppressive yoke of socialism. It turns out that you let the nazis win after all. At least, that's how the teabaggers seem to think.

Lincoln said you can fool some of the people all of the time. What bothers me is when that 'some' becomes 'enough.'

  4. Reckless spending is only bad when the other side does it.

When my side is in charge everybody should love it or leave it and respect the office. When the other side is in charge we need a revolution and regime change.
